Key Terms Explained
P/E Ratio
Price-to-Earnings ratio measures how much investors pay per rupee of earnings. A high P/E can signal overvaluation — or high growth expectations.
CAGR
Compound Annual Growth Rate. It smooths out volatility to show the steady annual return your investment would have produced over a period.
Circuit Breaker
A SEBI mechanism that pauses trading when a stock or index moves beyond a predefined limit — protecting markets from panic-driven spirals.
Demat Account
A dematerialised account that holds shares in electronic form, replacing physical share certificates. Mandatory for trading on Indian exchanges.
NAV
Net Asset Value — the per-unit value of a mutual fund, calculated at end of day. Buying a fund with lower NAV doesn't mean it's cheaper.
Theta Decay
The daily erosion of an option's time value as expiry approaches. Sellers profit from theta; buyers race against it.
